Care instructions

Any kind of surface covering is subject to natural wear depending on how much traffic it has to put up with. Therefore regular proper cleaning and care are of the utmost importance.

Damage or serious soiling should be removed with steel wool, sanding, or a green scrub pad, and applying a fresh coat of oil/wax, hot wax stain, or other finish. However there's always a risk some residue may remain. By all means consult a professional.

Regular maintenance
Don't begin any care for the first 2-3 weeks after applying fresh finish. In the case of pre-finished flooring, any time, and for oil treated wood only after appropriate drying time. Normal cleaning can be done, sweeping, vacuuming, or wiping clean with a slightly damp cloth or mop. Floor polish may be added to the water in the case of varnished flooring, for oiled flooring a mild detergent, but in any case the floor should not be doused with water, or swelling may occur. Any water or other liquids spilt on the floor must be removed immediately.

Thorough machine or manual cleaning
This should be done when the flooring shows signs of heavy, ground in dirt, that routing cleaning fails to remove.

For oiled floors
At home, thorough cleaning is needed 2-4 times a year, in places with heavier traffic like schools, restaurants, or businesses every 2-3 weeks. The oil and wax mixture is applied and spread evenly. No excess should be left on the surface. This means the wood is cleaned and reimpregnated with fresh oil/wax at the same time. You should leave floor to dry for 12 hours, before walking on it

Varnished floors
Under the usual conditions of wear, this should be necessay once a year or so. In the case of heavily trafficked areas, by all means before heavily trafficed times, like when special events are put on. The varnish protection can only be assured if sanding and refinishing are done at the proper time.
