Since wood is natural building material, it is affected by temperature and humidity wherever it is installed.

Wood breathes

At relatively high humidity wood flooring absorbs moisture and expands. On the other hand, when it's dry (e.g. when the heating is on) the wood gives off humidity, so it shrinks, and gaps appear at joints. That simply means it is a natural product and should not to be thought of as a defect. When heating is on make sure to keep rooms well ventilated at warm temperatures.
